It’s Wimbledon 2023!
NEW BALLS please! It’s that time of year again when the tennis players take over the telly…..and the Wimbledon celebrity commentators keep us genned up on which new stars to watch out for – and why Djokovic is so blinking good! But there’ll be no Sue Barker this year, nor Emma Radacanu – how will we cope?
Who can we expect to see at Wimbledon 2023!
Andy Murray, now aged 36 and sporting a new metal hip, is game on and having a go, though unseeded this year; and Cameron Norrie returns as the British men’s best hope, while top-ranker Katie Boulter from Leicestershire is one to keep an eye on in the women’s matches. We can be sure there’ll be plenty of sweat, high emotion and maybe a few tears, and that the ball-boys and girls will be the real heroes of the day. Good luck to them all.
You know it’s Summer when Wimbledon hits the screen!
Almost as much fun as the tennis is watching the crowd, in all their colourful attire and weird hats stuffing their faces with strawberries and cream in the glorious sunshine, excited to have won a Centre Court ticket and predictably ooh-ing and ahh-ing as the aces and ‘outs’ rain down.
Let’s hope there is a steady supply of barley water and strawberries and of ever more extravagant superlatives from the likes of McEnroe and Billie-Jean to keep everyone happy.
Best seat in the house…
It is said that the best seat in the house for the Wimbledon finals is on Henman Hill or latterly renamed as Murray Mound, a grassy area behind Court No.1 where ground pass holders can pay around £25 to watch the Tennis in the Wimbledon grounds. Potentially the most atmospheric place to watch those tense tiebreaks but, be aware, the British weather is about as unpredictable as Murray on a bad day. It could be difficult to bag a spot!
Sit back, pour yourself a pimms and tune in…. it’s going to be ACE!
